A guest post by Deb Sinness. "The Greyhound bus dropped me in downtown Oceanside with no instructions on how to get to my command on the sprawling 125,000-acre base hugging the Pacific coast."
explaining to a stranger that you had a karmic debt to pay is just awesome. This is a great story! As a Michigander, I know exactly what you mean by need by needing to escape the winter... even rain in southern california is a welcome change.
Reading this in Oceanside! We flew into San Diego, took the shuttle to the transit center, and bought Coaster train tickets to Oceanside. The first train in was the Amtrak Surfliner. We asked the conductor if we could use our Coaster tickets. Alas no. Seeing our distress at the the hour wait for the Coaster, she waved us aboard, helped us stow our luggage, including a bike, and said she'd come back later to sell us tickets. You might guess that she never did. Another Oceanside Karmic debt to repay!
There are so many people who had helped me in only one year as a nomad that I can't even remember all. I hope I can pay my karmic debits too. Great story, Deb.
Mateus! Thank you for reading Deb's wonderful story and commenting. Every time you and I engage, I think of a collab I'd love to invite you to. I'm catching up on stuff these days and plan to reach out soon-ish. I just wanted to put a bug in your ear that an invite is coming your way. ;)
It will be such an honor, Holly! I really like our chats and your content. The bug is already buzzing around me. When you organize yourself, just contact me.
Thank you, Julie! I LOVE this series. I just so happened to have been saved by many a kind human, so I have many more of my own to tell. But I’m even more excited to have guest posters like Deb telling their stories of people showing up for people in this world where we can see too much of the opposite. ♥️
One of the many things that strikes me about this piece is the way speaking the words, "I have a karmic debt to repay," affects everyone in the story. I think that's so beautiful that you said those words out loud and that they were exactly what the situation needed. I love this story.
Thank you so much @Holly Starley for the opportunity. I’m honored to be the first Give and Get contributor!!
And I'm honored to have you be the first contributor, Deb. I love how much this story is already resonating with people! And it's only just posted. :)
You did a good thing, Deb! Love this sweet tale of gratuitous kindness.
Thank you Troy. I appreciate you stopping by.

Yes it is indeed, Ian!
Really cute and lovely story. Now, hopefully Ashley holds onto that goodwill and at some point extends it to another.
Thank you Nathan.

What a coincidence that you’re there and reading the story…I love it!!

Right?! That's such a good point. I'm glad that line spoke to you and that you highlighted it, Rebecca. And I'm glad you said it, Deb!
The kindness I was shown stayed with me, and I was glad to be able to pay it forward.
What a wonderful story! I have a few karmic debts I need to pay myself.
Me too, Joseph, me too! Very grateful the universe seems to provide ample opportunity to show up for others if we're tuned into that. :)
Thanks for the kind words @Joseph C Simmons.
Thank YOU for the kindness you showed. <3
