5x5 with Rona Maynard. "I was a woman in love—not simply with my dog but with my corner of the world. Everywhere we went was home because we walked it, season after season."
David, I thought this too. During our conversations for the last couple months, I’ve fallen in love with Rona’s precision with words, as well as her anticipation of reader’s desires.
Thank you, Katharine! I love visiting your writing for the same reason, always much thought and insight to be found. And I echo Rona. I'd host you on my virtual front porch any day of the week. ♥️
Holly and Rona: I absolutely loved this conversation. So much wisdom and authenticity here. Rona, your words on your love and marriage resonated deeply with my experience. Particularly, ""we came to understand that mature love is seeing your partner clearly, the crazy-making side along with the endearing one, and loving that person anyway." And Holly, I live vicariously through your adventures and feel as if "Ruby" is that summer retreat I never had. I loved the wisdom in "A nuanced conversation ensued. No hearts or minds were changed. But maybe a tiny piece of a one-day bridge was exchanged." I want to restack the hell out of this!
Did not know your daughter was your graphic designer, Holly - very cool. Great conversation - love hearing how Rona's dog Casey drew her outdoors "my portal to the natural world." Dogs are amazing creatures. 💜
Pooches are such delights, portals to a completely open kind of love, as much as to the natural world. Just read a wee bit about yours in your most recent post. What a good boy!🐾
What a lovely conversation. So nice to get to know you both. Holly, I've been thinking about you and hope you're on the mend or at least have some answers. Rona, your views on marriage are spot on. Hubby and I have been together for 32 years. "Kindness is the wellspring of trust." Great quote. I also like to advise newlyweds that marriage is an as-is sale. ☺️
Thanks, CK! I’m … getting there, let’s say. I loved that line, too. And also that Rona noted that they hadn’t yet learned to be kind. I find it such a lovely reminder that it’s a thing that not only can but probably very often needs to be learned—kindness in a relationship that, by its very nature, requires trust. And the as-is sale is a great reminder too. ;)
Right?! What would it add to our lives to apply that to so many things--this day, this conversation, this visit? I'm not at all surprised this line spoke to someone so enthralled with curiosity.
Rona, Michael is a writer who you'll find home in his work, by the way.
The other day when I went for my walk, I purposely walked on the other side of the street — sparked by Rona’s line — to see how I would see the street differently.
Such a delight to collaborate with you, Holly.
Thanks for this dialogue Holly and Rona.
"As a writer, I get to raise my dead." That sentence's remarkable power rests upon the word "my."
One reason writers need readers: to reveal what we don't see in our own words. Thank you, David.
And thank you, thank you for sharing!

What a great conversation! Loved the insight you two draw out of your very different lives.
Thanks so much for stopping in at our virtual front porch.

Restack away! What a wonderfully heartfelt comment.
Awwww, Cathy, thank you! I very much appreciate all the wisdom you share, both in your own writing and in comments. And thank you for sharing. 🥰

Beautiful conversation between two fabulous writers and women. Thank you! I loved this
And I love knowing you did.
Ditto what Rona said. Thank you, thank you, Jackie. I so appreciate you reading and commenting. :)

I love the "as-is" sale. You'll never change the other person, hard as you may try.
I loved this conversation so much! So many great nuggets of truth ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for joining us, Mesa.
Thank you, thank you, Mesa! We very much enjoyed putting this conversation together and couldn’t wait to share it. ♥️
A wonderful conversation.
I absolutely love this thought from Rona - “How will this walk be different from all other walks?”
— that is such a great question to ask and such a wonderful attitude to adopt.
:)

Definitely add so much to our lives.

Thanks Holly :)
Re-stacked! Love it.
Kara, thank you so much for reading and sharing. What a delight to have a bit of "face time" with you the other day. 🥰
Yes, I love the break out rooms. See you soon!
