let's
i’ve missed you. i’ve not known what I wanted to say. i’ve wanted to say everything. i’ve wanted to say nothing.
i’ve wanted to take your hand and run madly alongside tide’s whisper-roar, our throats opening in tandem to mix spit with salt spray.
i’ve wanted to swap actions and plans and hope, passing them between us like oil whose burning will outlast that of the beds.
i’ve wanted to ask how often your heart rattles the bars of your ribcage. how often you dream your bed covers into quicksand or wish you could. how soon in a day you’re a balloon with a pinhole.
i’ve wanted your words’ wind in the canyons of my ears: “me too,” and, “i’m here,” and, “yes/and.”
i’ve wanted to share the pinkness of sunrise, how it spills, lusty and decadent and always, across the sky. I’ve wanted for us to share delight and laughter like that. do you know what i mean? the kind that empties us in a way that renders us vessels.
Thank you all for staying with the Desk during this break to recharge. Your support has meant the world.

Hard times, heart-breaking times. And yet, today is Imbolc, the Celtic celebration of spring returning as the light quickens the land. Today I said out loud the names of the nine people killed by ICE so far this year as a way to honor them. It feels important to speak their names. (List on my Substack post here: https://susanjtweit.substack.com/p/courage) Yes to courage, yes to open hearts, yes to doing what we can to keep ourselves as healthy as we can (and our nation too). I hope your recharge time really did help, Holly, and I send a hug and many blessings your way.
